HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAAAYYYY to my baby, my first novel, THE WAITING ROOM ๐Ÿ™‚

This experience has been scary, amazing, fun, self-deprecating, empowering…an insane rush of emotions, every step of the way. From collecting dust on my laptop for years, to finally being done and selling on Amazon and at BookPeople…I’m just so happy.

I also need to thank the people in my life who have been so supportive–my parents, namely. I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing, and they’ve always been there to support me. My best friends–geez, the whining and stress they’ve had to endure from me haha, thank you guys. My readers, the first people to take a chance and buy the damn thing, the reviewers and their lovely words–I cannot express how grateful I am for you!

So let’s celebrate!

I’ve been thinking about doing another wave of giveaways, and I feel like this is the perfect time.

First 25 readers to email me get a free ecopy (please specify if you’d prefer a Mobi, PDF, or ePub file)!

My only request is that you please post a review on Amazon and Goodreads ๐Ÿ™‚

A Chance to Leave the Self-Pub World…what to do?!

Standard

selfpub

That’s right, I have an opportunity to float on over to the traditional publishing world! Well, two opportunities actually- in the last few weeks, I’ve had TWO offers from two very different indie publishers. It should be a dream come true, right? Right?! How could I even be considering turning them both down?

Sigh.

So many things to think about here.

First of all, one of the publishers is e-book only. BUT, I’d get to keep the print rights- so technically, I’d still be self-published with the paperback version. I don’t know how I feel about that though- they wouldn’t be linked on Amazon. Different edits, different covers…it’d be like having two completely different books out there…

Not to mention, I LOVE my current cover. And then there’s the reviews to think about…I cherish each and every review I’ve received on Amazon and Goodreads. If I take the book down and sign a contract with a publisher, I lose all of those kind words that are sooo dear to me!

While I’m rambling, let’s go ahead and throw in the bizarre moral obligation I feel to the wonderful self-pub world. A strange guilt has washed over me at the mere thought of abandoning my proud post as ALYSHA KAYE, SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR.

There’s also the inevitable feeling of, “What if an even BETTER offer comes along, and I just need to wait it out?”

It’s a tough call to say the least. I wish I had a year to think it over, but I’ll be making a decision before this month is over I’m sure. Wish me luck!

And check out THE WAITING ROOM while it’s still in it’s lovely original format ๐Ÿ˜‰

When Book Bloggers Go MIA…

Standard

blog

Before THE WAITING ROOM was released to Amazon, I did what every self-published author does: I emailed an ARC to any lovely book blogger who was willing to give it an honest review!

Many of them have been my #1 supporters–not just posting blogs, but hosting interviews, sharing on Twitter and Facebook, re-posting on Amazon and Goodreads, and more. These people have shown me more love than some of my own family and friends (sadly).

But what about those other book bloggers?

…you know, the ones who promised an honest review but then…disappeared faster than underage college kids when the cops show up to a frat party.

I mean, I sent you an ARC, man! And a follow-up email!

Is this just something indie authors have to live with? Am I rightfully bummed?

Better Early Than Late: When pub dates go wrong…

The Waiting Room on Amazon

If you’ve self-published, you probably know the exasperation of CreateSpace and Amazon.

In my case, I wanted to make sure my novel was out on July 1, the date which I’ve advertised everywhere. CreateSpace warns that the print process sometimes takes up to 5 days…so, of course, I uploaded 5 days before the 1st.

And then my book magically appeared on Amazon a day later. Friends and family excitedly posted on my Facebook and I deflated in my humid, Texas apartment.

“Well….better early than late!” My friend Nathan graciously pointed out. I drank three mimosas at brunch and decided to go ahead and let the world know: my book is available!

Saturday Night's Alright for Writing

I started this blog a few months ago for me. It was just somewhere for me to put my writing in case I wanted someone to see it. I have almost 100 followers now (which might not seem like much, but I never expected it) and if that many people are interested in what Iย have to say, I think itโ€™s time for me to give this blog a little structure and consistency.

So for the next two weeks, itโ€™s going to be running on bare bones (I really do hope thatโ€™s a saying) while I get set up for a complete blog overhaul. Nothing major is going to change โ€“ I will still be blogging reviews, writing about reading and sharing teasers. What is changing is my goals, or rather now Iโ€™m actually going to have goals. Hopefully it will give me more direction in what Iโ€™m reading and whatโ€ฆ
